Attachment-Focused EMDR

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, is an evidence-based, integrative psychotherapy approach designed to treat symptoms of trauma and posttraumatic stress. Attachment Focused-EMDR is an innovation in EMDR and the field of trauma in that it specifically works to repair the effects of relational/attachment traumas on the mind-body throughout the lifecycle.

Those who have experienced trauma often report feeling anxious, depressed, and at times find it difficult to connect to new or existing relationships. Relational traumas can include parental or caregiver substance abuse, physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect. The consequences of such traumas are persistent and pervasive in that they become part of the neural circuitry of the brain and can impact how one feels, thinks, perceives and acts in relationship to self and others.
